JEHS | Start Strong Start Safe

PURPOSE:

 

Johnny Economedes High School Work Safe Plan will provide necessary guidelines to provide a safe working environment during normal day to day operations.  JEHS Safety Coordinator will communicate and train employees and students on the Work Safe Plan, disinfecting, and sanitation procedures. JEHS will provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), disinfecting and sanitation supplies to employees.  

  

PROVIDE: Provide public notices

 

A.   JEHS will post Work Safe Plan on campus website after approval from District Administration.

 

B.   JEHS will post signage in highly visible locations (i.e. school entrances, restrooms) that promote everyday protective measures.  JEHS will broadcast regular announcements on reducing the spread and behaviors that prevent the spread of COVID-19 on PA systems throughout the school day.

 

C.   Maintenance and facilities will place floor signage to encourage social distancing. (i.e. hallways, cafeteria, restrooms, nurses office, front office, etc..)

 

D.   JEHS Administration will use social media platforms to promote prevention methods to inform all stakeholders.

 

E.   JEHS will use Parentlink communication tool for mass communication to parents about prevention methods, procedures at school, etc.

  

F.    Parents will be asked will be asked to sign a wellness acknowledgement form before students are allowed on campus.

 

 

PREVENT: Practices to Prevent the Virus from Entering the School

 

Before coming to work

 

A.   JEHS employees and students must self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms such as:

·         fever, chills

·         cough, shortness of breath

·         difficulty breathing, fatigue

·         muscle, body aches, headache

·         loss of taste or smell, sore throat

·         congestion or runny nose

·         nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.

 

B.   If an employee or student experience any of these symptoms, they will be required to contact the immediate supervisor or nurse and stay home.

 

C.   JEHS employees will be required to bring their own containers for their lunch and drinks.

 

D.   JEHS employees will be provided with cloth mask. Face shields will also be provided by ECISD. JEHS employees shall use the mask or shield provided or bring a mask from home. Masks will be provided to the employees for emergency purposes.

 

E.   JEHS Students and visitors must wear a face mask at all times while on campus.  Students will only remove their face mask during breakfast or lunch. 

  

Upon arrival to campus employees will:

 

A.   JEHS employees who clock in and out are assigned a staggered work schedule to reduce congregating at the clock. JEHS employees using TCP must maintain social distancing guidelines of 6 feet while waiting to access the clock. Staff will also have option of using the mobile app for clocking in and out.

 

B.   JEHS employees using the East and West parking area will report to the Nurse’s Office in the Administration Building; and employees using the South parking area will be assessed by the 2nd nurse at the middle south side entrance of the Academic Building.  Only designate parking areas are to be used until further notice.                                                *See Appendix A

C.   JEHS employees are required to report to the nurse to fill out the “ECISD Employee Wellness” questionnaire on a weekly basis. Daily temperature readings will be logged on the questionnaire before the employee clocks in. Employees will receive a colored wrist band to indicate that temperature has been checked.  Employees are not allowed on any areas of the campus without the wristband.  Employees must initial daily that all the answers in the questionnaire are accurate.

D.   JEHS employees are required to keep a social distance of 6 feet and wear mask at all times.

E.   JEHS employees will be screened and sent home if any of the following are identified:

a.    Exposure (close contact) to someone who has been confirmed to have COVID-19.

b.    Employee has signs or symptoms of COVID-19.

c.    Employee is required to self-isolate.

 

Upon arriving to school students will:

 

A.   JEHS students will be screened at the bus and receive a color band.  Students dropped off by their parents will be screen at hut #2 and receive a colored wristband.

 

B.   JEHS students arriving via bus will be dropped off at 4 way stop or J area and will utilize both northeast and southeast entrances to the Academic Building.

 

C.   Students driving their own vehicle will park on the east side and enter the building thru the north east entrance. Student will have their temperature checked at the door.

 

D.   JEHS students arriving via parent drop off will enter the Academic Building through the North West.

 

E.   JEHS students are required to keep a social distance of 6 feet and wear a mask covering the nose and mouth at all times. Slogans and images on masks must comply with campus and district dress codes.

 

F.    JEHS students will be sent home if any of the following are identified:

 

a.    Exposure (close contact) to someone who has been confirmed to have COVID-19

b.    JEHS student has signs or symptoms of COVID-19

c.    JEHS Student is required to self-isolate.

d.    JEHS student fails to comply with work safe plan at any time during school day.

 

Visitors to Campus

 

A.   JEHS will minimize parents on campus. Parents will be encouraged to call instead of visiting school.  If instructional materials need to be picked up or dropped off, a curbside option will be used. If parent needs to pick up a student they will need to make contact with personnel in hut #2. Personnel will call for student to come over to assign curbside parking.

 

B.   JEHS will restrict visits in schools to only those essential to school operations.

 

C.   However, if it is necessary to have a visitor, all visitors to JEHS must report to the security hut to sign-in and follow screening protocol.  If a parent must enter the building they will be required to follow all safety protocols. All ECISD employees coming to campus must follow above mentioned protocol.

 

RESPOND: Practices to respond to lab confirmed cases

 Individuals Confirmed or Suspected with COVID-19

 

A.   Any staff member or student who is lab confirmed to have COVID-19 or experiences the symptoms of COVID–19 must stay home throughout the infectious period and cannot return to work until the re-entry screening takes place.

·   If a student exhibits symptoms, a nurse will evaluate the student in the hallway. If the nurse determines the student needs to go home an officer will walk the student over to room 123.

·   A nurse will make contact with the students’ parents to make arrangements for pick up or contact transportation.

B.   Employee will report lab confirmed results to Nurse Rosalinda Reyes or Ida Vega. The nurse will contact Arturo Gonzalez, Campus Safety Coordinator and Diana Davila, Director of Health Services. Parents of students that test positive must contact the nurse.

C.   Contact tracing will begin. Required documentation and notifications will be made to potentially exposed staff members or students.

D.   JEHS will close off areas where possible infection was located and will not use these areas until after cleaning and disinfecting

E.   Area will remain closed at least 24 hours before cleaning and disinfecting. If 24 hours is not feasible, wait as long as possible.

  

MITIGATE: Practices to reduce likely spread inside the school

Supervision of employees

A.   JEHS Administration will ensure employees and students practice safety protocols through random checks and periodical announcements throughout the day and during lunch breaks.

B.   JEHS Administration will ensure that all employees and students maintain social distancing when feasible and do not congregate.

C.   JEHS Administration will ensure that the employees and students are constantly reminded to use soap and water or hand sanitizer to wash their hands frequently.

D.   JEHS will place work safe stations at entrances to all buildings which will include information on safe practices and hand sanitizer.

Breakfast and Lunch Procedures for Students

Breakfast

     A.  Custodians and teachers will disinfect all classroom desks.

      B.  Teachers will provide hand sanitizer to all students.

 

      C.  Students that are parent drop off or drive to school will be screen before entering 

            classroom.

 

     D.  Students will eat breakfast in their classrooms. (8:45)

 

E.   Students may not share food or drinks at any time.

 

F.    Students will eat breakfast in the classroom.

 

Lunch

      A.  Cafeteria custodians will disinfect serving and dinning table, before, during, and  

            after meals.

      B.  Administrators, teachers, and paraprofessionals will monitor students.

.

      C.  Students will need to follow cafeteria directional patterns, use their mask while in

            line, and practice safe distancing of 6 feet at all times.

 

G.   Students will only be allowed to sit in designated spaces. These spaces will be at least 6 feet apart.

 

     E.  Students are not allowed to share food or drinks at any time.

 

    F.  When leaving the cafeteria area students must avoid congregating and socially

          distance 6 feet.

Classroom

 

A.   Use hand sanitizer when entering the classroom.

 

B.   All shared equipment and materials must be sanitized between uses. (calculators, computers, etc.)

 

C.   A seating chart must be recorded on the first day and students must have same seat each day.

 Movement in Building

A.   JEHS will mark and create a “right way” directional pattern in hallway.  All employees and students will be required to walk to the right side and socially distance 6 feet to minimize face to face interactions.

B.    When using the stairs all students and employees will be required to use the right side and socially distance 6 feet.

C.   Only two people (not facing each other) allowed in the elevator at one time.

D.   JEHS is purchasing door stops so that classroom doors can be propped open so excessive use of doorknobs is prevented.

E.   Doors to common areas like the Main Office, Guidance Office Area, Library, and Staff Workrooms will remain open during working hours.

F.    JEHS staff and students will to wash hands or use hand sanitizer on hands when moving from one work area to another.

 

End of day Procedures:

     A.   JEHS students will be dismissed via intercom by sections.

     B.  JEHS students must follow all safety protocols during dismissal.

 

     C.  JEHS students must follow all bus safety protocols and adhere to  a sitting    

           arrangements.  

  

Common, High Traffic Areas, and Other Safety Protocols

 

A.   JEHS custodial staff will keep cleaning and disinfecting supplies (disinfectant spray, gloves, etc.) next to copy machines so employees can wipe the machine before use.

 

B.   JEHS lead custodian along with designated administrator have create a check off daily schedule for disinfecting all areas.

 

C.   Frequently touched surfaces like doorknobs, stair rails, and light switches will be cleaned and disinfecting more frequently.

 

D.   Only one person per table in workrooms to maintain social distancing especially during lunch times when staff may have mask off.  All teachers are encouraged to eat in their classroom or the south side of the cafeteria.  Everyone will be required to sit 6 feet apart at all times

 

E.   Plexiglass has been installed at front counter/receptionist in Main Office.

 

F.    Markers (stickers or tape) placed in areas to indicate 6 feet apart when creating a line is necessary.

  

G.   JEHS custodians and teachers will disinfect any high touch areas in the classroom:

 

·         Telephones

·         Door handles

·         Desks

·         Filing cabinets

·         Computers

·         Technology hardware

 

H.   JEHS custodian will ensure that all work areas, workrooms, break rooms, and general areas sanitized with the Ionizer disinfectant spray daily in addition to the regular cleaning and disinfecting procedures.

 

I.     Hand sanitizer and hand sanitizer dispensers will be placed in classrooms and high traffic areas to encourage students and employees to continually sanitize their hands.

 

Other Safety Protocols

 

     A.  All staff and students will practice social distancing of 6 feet at all times. This       

           includes congregating in hallways, classrooms, library, teacher’s lounges, and 

           common areas.

 

     B.  Absolutely no selling of food, snacks, or drinks will be permitted before, during, 

           or after school.

      C.  Whenever possible all employees are encouraged to communicate via phone.

    

      D.  All disinfectants must be issued by ECISD.

    

      E.  Restroom passes are limited to one student at a time to a designated restroom.

 

      F.  Teachers are to refrain from allowing students to leave the classroom for any 

            reason other than the restroom.

 

Scheduled breaks

A.   All staff and M&O on break schedule must utilize existing lounges and follow social distancing guidelines.  Only one person at each round table are allowed at any lounge area during break in order to maintain 6 ft. social distance guidelines.

Meetings

A.   During in campus meetings all employees must maintain social distancing and wear face coverings. Campus planning, department meetings, faculty meetings, and other committees will meet using Google Meets, Google Classroom, or any other platform chosen by principal. 

 

Training Staff

A.   JEHS will train and communicate with staff the following topics including but not limited to…

a.    The risk of exposure to COVID 19 and the symptoms of the disease.

b.    Safe work procedures including wearing a mask, hand washing, and sneeze etiquette.

c.    Reporting exposure or symptoms of COVID 19

d.    Disinfecting protocols

e.    Reporting unsafe conditions
