Beginning with the 2025–2026 school year, House Bill 1481 prohibits the use of personal communication devices during instructional hours: 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. At Johnny G. Economedes High School, we are committed to ensuring a learning environment free of distractions so every Jaguar can thrive.
📚 Guidelines: Devices May Not Be Used During the School Day
- School day is defined as 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Devices (phones, smartwatches, tablets, headphones/earbuds) are not allowed during the school day – from the first bell to the last bell. This is also for devices brought from home, like a personal laptop.

Applies to all areas: classrooms, cafeteria, library, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, and common spaces.

Devices must be powered off and stored out of sight in clear backpacks.
⚠️ Consequences for Violations
First Violation
- Device will be confiscated.
- Student may pick it up at the end of the day.
- A $15 fine will be required for return.
Second Violation
- Device will be confiscated.
- A $15 fine will be required for return.
- Device is returned to the parent/guardian.
Third Violation
- Device will be confiscated.
- A $15 fine will be required for return.
- Device is returned to the parent/guardian.
- 1 day of ISS.
Refusal to comply = 1 day of In-School Suspension (ISS).
