JROTC Co-Curricular Activities

Cadets participate in a myriad of co-curricular activities to demonstrate their attainment of lesson outcomes. Some of these activities include precision and exhibition military drill competitions, air rifle competitions (optional), Raider Challenge competitions, JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl (JLAB), and a physical fitness competition known as JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC). Cadets who complete 4 years of JROTC co-curricular activities and its challenging curriculum will be more college, career and/or military ready.

* Color Guard: The color guard consists of two cadets with flags, and two cadets with rifles. The color guard team can be seen presenting the flags at the beginning of our football games and ceremonies within the school district and community. You will learn patience and precise movements if you decide to join this team.

* Armed Drill Team: This team teaches cadets to march, spin rifles, and have fun. This team is for males and females.

* Unarmed Drill Team: Cadets learn to march, and routines with beats using their hands. It sounds complicated, but if you put in time, and effort, you can learn the routines well. On this drill team you do not have rifles. This team is for females and males.

* Raider Team: Is an athletic team that tests cadet's endurance and teamwork abilities through several events; to include building & crossing a rope bridge, several obstacle courses, a cross-country rescue event and a 5k run.

* JROTC Leadership & Academic Bowl (JLAB): is an all-service national competition that culminates in the Level III JLAB Championship in Washington, DC! The JROTC Leadership & Academic Bowl (JLAB) is a nationally recognized academic competition created exclusively for JROTC students. By participating, cadets learn the values of citizenship, leadership, academic competition, and college opportunity.

* Saber Guard: This is a team where students will perform with sabers (swords) at many events such as homecoming, quinceñera, and military ball.

* Physical Fitness Team: This team practically explains itself. Cadets increase their physical endurance and stamina through strength training, and aerobic workout

JEHS | JROTC Cleans N. Alamo Road

The JROTC program from Johnny G. Economedes High School performed a roadside cleanup on December 3, 2022. While many people were still in their beds, students from the Jaguar Battalion was picking up trash along N. Alamo Rd. The JROTC department adopted a two mile stretch on N. Alamo Rd. from the corner of E. Richardson Rd. to Monte Christo Rd. They were able to fill 22 fifty-gallon bags totaling over 400 lbs. of litter and debris. Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Melony Hernandez, the Battalion Commander for the Jaguar Battalion said, “It was great that the cadets sacrificed part of their Saturday to assist in keeping the community clean. We hope to continue in keeping our adopted highway clean from litter and debris and continue keeping the pathway to our school clean.” This is the battalion second time this school year conducting a roadside cleanup. So far the battalion has picked up over 1000 pounds of trash and debris alongside their road. The road has been neglected for years and since the program adoption of the road, you can defiantly see the difference.

Adopt-A-Highway is a Texas-born program that allows volunteers to adopt stretches of state-maintained roadway to conduct litter prevention. The program involves community volunteers in local roadside clean-up efforts. The goal of the program is to reduce roadside litter in an effort to keep our community clean and beautiful. Adopt-A-Highway currently has approximately 3,700 participating groups across the state
