Saavedra

Mr. Juan Saavedra is currently the Director of Early College High School at Economedes. He has been part of the administrative team at Economedes for the past 13 years.  He graduated from the St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas where he obtained a Bachelor's of Science degree in Mathematics. Mr. Saavedra went on to obtain a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Texas-Pan American with a focus on school administration. His expertise and experience with the school make him a valuable and key component in promoting a rigorous and a college-going culture.

 

 

K Calderon
Mrs. Karina Calderon serves as counselor of the Early College at Economedes. In this role, she provides academic guidance to all of our early college students, outreach to parents, and support to teachers. She is a key link to our higher education partner in dual credit, South Texas College. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Perez

Mrs. Delia Perez is a lead teacher of the Early College at Economedes. She teaches Advanced Placement and Dual Credit U.S. Government and Politics at the Early College at Economedes and is an instructor in the Political Science Department at South Texas College. Mrs. Perez is passionate about helping students become well-informed participants in the American democracy. Her professional experience includes 25 years dedicated to the education sector, including 19 years as an educator. Mrs. Perez was recognized as Edinburg CISD’s District Teacher of the Year in 2019-2020. She also received the competitive James Madison Fellowship awarded to one teacher from each state to pursue a graduate degree related to the study of American constitutional government. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin American Studies from Yale University, a Master of Public Affairs from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin, and a Master of Science in Political Science from the University of Nebraska Omaha.

 
 

MorleyDr. William Morley is a lead teacher of the Early College at Economedes. He teaches Dual Enrollment Speech at the Early College at Economedes. For the last twenty years, Dr. Morley has dedicated himself to the college access and success of underrepresented students. From 2001 to 2009 Morley served as Assistant Director of Student Financial Services at UTPA where he assisted students in finding the financial means to pay for college. In Fall 2009, Dr. Morley “saw the light” when he began teaching English and AVID at JEHS and now helps students find the educational confidence and efficacy, as well as the personal resolve to attend college. Dr. Morley was named J. Economedes Teacher of the Year and an ECISD District Teacher of the Year finalist for 2016-2017 school year and has also been named an HEB Excellence in Education State Semifinalist.

 

CamposMr. Anthony Campos is a lead teacher of the Early College at Economedes. Mr. Campos, a graduate of Texas A&M University, began his professional career as a Loan Review Analyst for Commerce Bank. After his time in banking and a 5-year stint as a teacher at United High School in Laredo, a move to the Rio Grande Valley led him to a teaching position at Johnny G. Economedes High School. He currently teaches AP Macroeconomics and is a perennial Regional/State UIL qualifier in Computer Applications. Mr. Campos also serves as  Social Studies Department Chair. He was selected as J. Economedes Teacher of the Year and ECISD Secondary District Teacher of the Year in 2018-2019.
